Description:

Meeckral is a guest researcher at ORNL interning through the Department of Energy Faculty and Student Team (FaST).  Her research project is focused on the phase inversion behavior of liquid-liquid dispersions in centrifugal contactors.  An organic solvent and an aqueous solution are used in a centrifugal contactor for two phase mixing and extraction of a species from one phase to the other.  She employs conductivity measurements to determine the boundaries of the ambivalence region, wherein either phase can be continuous or dispersed.  Her advisors are Dr. Costas Tsouris (Mentor) and Dr. Jorge Gabitto (Faculty of Prairie View A&M University). This is Meeckral’s second research project and she hopes to return to ORNL upon graduation.
